…and welcome to the Alaska Sailing Club
Our club was founded in 1967 and is an engaged, community-involved 501(c)(3) corporation with an active yearly schedule of classes, regattas, and family-friendly events. We are a growing group of dedicated sailors focused on fun, friends, and sailing under the midnight sun!

Spring Work Party This Saturday
Ahoy, sailors! It’s finally time to open the club for the season. This Saturday is our spring work party, and as usual, there’s a lot to do get the club ready. Here’s a quick summary of the bigger projects for tomorrow:
-
Bylaws, Board Candidates, and Annual Meeting Reminder
Ahoy sailors! I hope everybody is having a wonderful holiday season filled with friends, family, and good cheer. I assume you’ve all been good, and the Santa will be stopping by plenty of sailing-related presents.
-
Northern Lights Results & Work Party Thanks
Wow! We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend to close out the 2024 season. On Saturday, we had sunshine and just enough wind to run the largest Northern Lights Regatta in ASC history.
-
September Last Hurrah & 2025 AK BNAC
Ahoys sailors! It’s been a rainy September so far, but we still have a bit more planned excitement at the club, including the Northern Lights Regatta on Saturday and the Fall Work Party on Sunday. We also have some exciting news from this year’s Buccaneer 18 North American Championships. More about all of this below:
-
Gov Cup Winners and BNAC 2024
Ahoy Sailors! We had an epic Gov Cup this year. The weather dramatically outperformed the forecast on Saturday. We managed five races in a fairly steady 5-10 knots of breeze. The racing was impressively tight with boats consistently finishing within seconds of one another.
What we do

Learn
Start your adventure
The ASC offers both introductory and intermediate courses every summer for adults, teens, and kids. Or intro courses require no prior sailing experience and are extremely popular. So, sign up quickly if you want a spot!

Race
Hone your skills
The ASC puts on six summer regattas, as well as “Wet Wednesday” races and clinics throughout summer. We host the largest Buccaneer 18 fleet in the US, as well as an active Portsmouth rated open fleet where anybody can race.

Relax
It’s like summer camp for adults & kids
We have a beautiful location with a clubhouse and sauna, trailered boat and RV parking, a tenting area, and moorings for small keelboats. It’s a fanatic spot for casual sailing, swimming, kayaking, and relaxing in the sun.
Our fleet
The ASC has a well-maintained collection of club boats suitable for sailors of all ages and abilities. Our core teaching fleet includes six Lido 14s, three Lasers, one Laser II, and five Optimists. In addition, we have a Buccaneer 18, a Catalina 16.5, a Skipjack 15, and an Ensign 22.
All of our boats are available for use by qualified club members. The ASC is an education-focused club, and we’re always enthusiastic about guiding any interested member through the qualification process. We are also happy to help with questions about club policies or protocol, rigging, sailing technique, boat repairs, etc.
A little more about us
To the best of our knowledge, the ASC is the northernmost sailing club in the United States. But despite this (or maybe because of it?) we have facilities that would be the envy of any sailing club in the world.
- A clubhouse, sauna, and storage shed
- A harbor with nine mooring spots for small keelboats
- Year-round parking for trailered dinghies
- An electric hoist with a 2000 lb. capacity
- Both short and long-term parking for trailers and RVs
- A quiet tenting area
- A designated campfire spot and firewood storage
- A small boat rack for storing small dinghies, as well as kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards
- “Park style” grounds
Things we don’t have
It’s probably also good to know the things that we don’t have at the ASC. Our site is beautiful and well-kept, but given our rural Alaskan setting there are amenities that we lack, including:
Running water
Members need to bring in their own water, although we do have a pretty ingenious lake-water sink for washing dishes.
Flush toilets
Although we do have a porta-potty service during the summer and a year-round outhouse.
Trash service
Members and guests are required to carry out their personal trash recycling from the clubhouse at the end of event weekends.
